  About the Branch:
It was established in 1984 as a unit, under the supervision of UNESCO and was dedicated to graduate studies because of its typical laboratories and advanced devices, in addition to distinguished staff and academics. In 1988, it became the first specialization of elementary studies in Iraq in the field of laser and its applications.
It aims to graduate specialized scientific and graduates, who have the knowledge of basic sciences and science of laser and light and optics and optical, according to the requirements of the development in the fields of scientific knowledge of lasers and its uses.
It also aims to provide well -minded scientific, academic staff, to conduct the applied researches, consultancy, and development of postgraduate studies, in several areas of researches, industrial and medical as well as in nanotechnology, semiconductors and detectives and thin-films. Also, in designing, and implementation of laser devices.
There are model classes and laboratories to conduct and participate in seminars, courses, and conferences.
