The lecture consisted a brief of the latest acknowledge about how to build houses and buildings which works on concept (Zero-Energy) principle or (Near Zero-Energy) and the economical methods in using the energy and how to connect it to the local power net

Ala Hasan (DSc. Tech., Helsinki University of Technology- Finland) is Senior Scientist in Smart Energy and System Integration at VTT, the Technical Research Centre of Finland http://www.vttresearch.com/, the largest research centre in North Europe.

Prior to that, Dr. Hasan worked at Aalto University http://www.aalto.fi/en/ (formerly known as Helsinki University of Technology) for 14 years. He held the Post of Academy of Finland Research Fellow (2010-2015).

Dr. Hasan is currently the representative of Finland in the Executive Committee of the Energy in Buildings and Communities Programme (EBC), of the International Energy Agency (IEA). He is the Finnish National Expert in the IEA- EBC- Annex 67 Energy Flexible Buildings (2015-2018). He was the Finnish National Expert in the IEA SHC Task 40 - EBC Annex 52: Towards Net Zero Solar Energy Buildings (2008-2013) http://task40.iea-shc.org/.

Dr. Hasan was President of IBPSA-Nordic (www.ibpsa-nordic.org, the Nordic regional affiliate of IBPSA for four countries: Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden) 2011-2015 and member of the Board of IBPSA-World, the International Building Performance Simulation Association www.ibpsa.org.

Dr. Hasan has been supervising many PhD students at Aalto University. He is Editorial Board Member of the International Journal of Low Carbon Technologies – Oxford Journals UK http://ijlct.oxfordjournals.org/.

Dr. Hasan has about 100 publications including international scientific journals, international conference papers and book chapters. An overview of some publications can be found at:

Dr. Hasan contributed in many research projects funded by Finnish national and EU programmes and was able to get funding from the Academy of Finland mounted to two million euros in the past years.
