The Department of Electromechanical Engineering at the University of Technology was granted a Master's degree with a grade of excellence for a practical study to reduce the viscosity of Iraqi oil in the pipelines by using an innovative and Nano -silica material. The study was done by the post- graduate student Aws Falah Hassan in the discussion which was held at Al-Kindi Hall at the department.
The thesis deals with the design and implementation of a wide-scale innovative power which contribute in reducing the viscosity of heavy Iraqi oil and improving the efficiency of the flow in the pipes with the help of Nano-silica, which increases the efficiency of expansion work. This technique was applied for the first time in Iraq through a contract with the oil pipeline company which is the beneficiary of the research. The practical results showed a reduction in viscosity of oil 37% by using innovative expansion and 60% by using the expansion and Nano-silica.
The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Saad Tami Hamidi ( Department of Electromechanical Engineering/ University of Technology )as a chairman and Assist. Prof.Dr. Naseer Abboud Easa (Al- Nahrain University / Faculty of Engineering )and Assist. Prof.Dr. Sherine Faeq Abdul-Karim , Assist. Prof.Dr. Raheeq Ismail Ibrahim and Dr. Manal Kadhem Abboud as supervisors, all of them are from the Department of Electromechanical Engineering at the University of Technology.
