Within the scientific activities of the petroleum technology department and in order to link the theoretical study and practical reality and observe the work of the oil engineers in the oil fields, the department has organized a scientific visit for the students to Garraf oil field for a period of 6-9 / 2/2016.

The Students and their accompanying delegation were received by the employees of the South Oil Company and Petronas company and also were welcomed in the internal departments of the University of Sumer.

The visiting program included a number of lectures on safety and firefighters to familiarize students with the equipment used to extinguish fires and the means used in each case. Later they were then gone to the Insulators section to explain their work and the equipment used in them. Then the students were gone to the Garraf oil field, accompanied by the company's employees where they observed the probing process to measure the cement bond and the process of exploration and production. In addition, a field visit has also been doing and looked at the most important achievements of the Petronas company and services provided to the area around the field including road construction and delivery of electricity to homes and the creation of many of the schools as well as showing them the water purification plant, which provides the necessary water for the field ..

The students were accompanied during this scientific visit by the department teaching and engineers: Mr. Mohammed Ghazi,  Mr.  Mohammed Abdul Ridha and Ms. Alya Mahmoud.
