Delegation from Petroleum Technology Visits State Company for Engineering Rehabilitation and Testing

A delegation from Petroleum Engineering Department at University of Technology headed by the scientific deputy Dr.Najam Al-Rubeai and Dr.Raed Naeem visited the state company for engineering rehabilitation and testing, one of the companies of the ministry of industry and minerals.

The delegation met the general director, engineer Saif Al-deen Ali and the project manager and engineer Adel Hussein.

During the meeting, they discussed the prospects of scientific and engineering cooperation between the company and the university/ petroleum technology department in the fields of engineering tests and they agreed to sign a memo of understanding. The company promised to support the second international conference for petroleum technology and petrochemical technology which will be held next April 2021.

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology holds a workshop with the participation of the CBRN Committee and the Civil Defense Committee:

The Chemical Engineering Department held a workshop for chemical accidents and the practice of extinguishing a fire with the participation of the CBRN Committee and the Civil Defense Committee in the department at the Dar Al-Salaam Hall on Tuesday 24/11/2020, in the presence of the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Prof. Jamal Manea Ali Al-Rabie,  and Prof. Dr. Riyadh Sadiq, Head of the Chemical Operations Branch and Chairman of the University CBRN Committee.

The workshop included a lecture and a practice of aroused fire extinguishing. The lecture was given by Assis. Dr. Manal Afham, Chairman of the CBRN Committee in the department, during which she explained how to provide immediate care to an injured person after an accident as a result of working in laboratories, and is usually performed by any ordinary person, and includes minor injuries Down to care during transportation to the hospital, I also mentioned that exposure to chemicals can still occur even with safety controls and precautions, as a result of this it is necessary, in addition to using personal protective equipment, to know how to deal and treat the injured as a result of laboratory accidents.

An actual practice was conducted on how to extinguish the arson attack by members of the CBRN Committee and the Civil Defense Committee of the department staff, with the participation of a group of members of the Civil Defense Division at the university.

The University of Technology holds a workshop on updating curricula and awareness manuals for preserving the ozone layer

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Jassim Abdul Aziz Hammadi, Technical Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Environment, and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Al-Ghabban, President of the University of Technology, the Mechanical Engineering Department held a workshop on (updating curricula and awareness booklets to preserve the ozone layer), which is held by the Ministry of Health and Environment / National Center In coordination with the University of Technology, Department of Mechanical Engineering, the workshop was opened by a representative of the Technical Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Environment, Chief Engineer (Shatha Kazem Khalaf)

The speech included an overview of the Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol to which Iraq joined in 2008 and became the country No. 193 according to which countries phase out the depleting substances from the ozone layer. The committee that was formed to compose three educational booklets to protect the ozone layer through peaceful practices was referred to. Environmentally for air-conditioning, icing, technologies and alternative and environmentally friendly gases for three levels (universities, technical, and professional), which were printed and distributed to universities, industrial settings and institutes in Baghdad and the governorates.

 The importance of the symposium comes within the framework of cooperation between the University of Technology and the rest of the state's institutions, providing them with solutions to technical problems and finding means of assistance to the Ministry of Environment to fulfill the international requirements and obligations to get rid of the gases that affect the ozone layer and activate the use of booklets and employ them in the relevant curricula in order to preserve the environment.

The workshop included a number of lectures: -

  1. (Awareness booklets for the three levels (universities, technical, and vocational) given by Prof. Ahmed Abd Mohamed / University of Technology / Mechanical Engineering Department / Air Conditioning and Freezing Branch
  2. (Updating the curricula that have been added to the curricula of universities, institutes and industry prep) delivered by Prof. Hassanein Muhammad Hassan / University of Technology / Mechanical Engineering Department / Air Conditioning and Freezing Branch
  3. (The Montreal Protocol and the Sustainable Development Goals / Goal 5) was given by the Chief Engineer Shaza Kazem Khalaf / Director of the National Ozone Center.

 The workshop witnessed a number of scientific interventions by the attendees, who in turn adhered to the recommendations of the Crisis Cell, as well as the commitment of those in charge of it to observe the rules of social distancing by arranging the hall and the attendees sitting in order to ensure the safety of everyone from the outbreak of Coronavirus (19COVID).

Iraq and Turkey agree on the importance of mutual recognition of universities and increasing scholarships for Iraqi students

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. NabilKazem Abdul-Saheb, received the Turkish Ambassador in Baghdad, FatihYildiz, and discussed the project of establishing the Turkish-Iraqi University and scholarships for Iraqi students.

The two sides reviewed the scientific specializations that Iraqi students wish to join through scholarships and fellowships offered by the Turkish party, according to the priority set by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

They emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation in the field of higher education by increasing the number of Turkish scholarships and scholarships sent from the Iraqi government to Turkey.

His Excellency the Minister expressed his hope that the obstacles that the Iraqi student faces in Turkish universities will be overcome and the residency procedures will be facilitated.

 The two parties agreed on the importance of mutual recognition of universities in both countries, according to the approved contexts in the certificate equivalency procedures.

In his turn, His Excellency the Ambassador affirmed his country's support and readiness to provide all possible cooperation that would develop higher education and academic institutions in Iraq, while the Turkish ambassador delivered a message from the President of the Turkish Higher Education Authority and the Turkish Minister of Science and Technology to His Excellency the Minister Prof. Dr. NabilKazem Abdel-Saheb to open horizons for scientific cooperation The joint exchange of professors, the achievement of scientific workshops and the exchange of experiences.

The Minister of Education receives the director of the Italian archaeological mission in Iraq, NiccoloMarchetti

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. NabilKazem Abdel Saheb, the archaeological expert NiccoloMarchetti, received the director of the Italian archaeological mission in Iraq.

The two sides discussed, in the presence of the President of the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture for Antiquities Affairs, Dr. LaithMajeed Hussein, the development of cooperation paths through the expansion of archaeological operations and the involvement of Iraqi universities through their specialized colleges and departments.

The Minister of Higher Education affirmed the universities ’readiness to cooperate with the Ministry of Culture and prospectors in the field of rehabilitating archaeological sites in Iraq, especially in Mosul, Babylon and DhiQar, calling at the same time to study a project to establish an archeology laboratory in universities for the purposes of training, qualification and skills development.

For his part, the archaeological expert, NiccoloMarchetti, reviewed the mechanisms of cooperation with the universities of Baghdad, Qadisiyah, Mosul and Kufa within the (Banu) project, which enjoys the interest of European archaeological institutions and seeks to develop historical facilities in the world.
