Under the support of Prof. Amin Dway Thamer, President of the University of Technology, the Chemical Engineering Department held a scientific seminar entitled "Raising awareness of the dangers of chemicals and biological materials substances within the CBRN concept" on Wednesday 15/3/2017 at Dar Al- Salaam Hall in the department.
The Assistant to the President of the University for Administrative Affairs appreciated the efforts of the department in establishing this symposium, which would raise awareness of the dangers of the security and proliferation of chemical and biological materials.
"There are a number of threats facing human societies at the present time, the dangers of toxic chemicals used at different times, which have caused many fatal or serious injuries, the risks of biological materials and are more dangerous than Chemical substances because they are rapidly spread in the form of epidemics and that the risks of radioactive materials can be causing different diseases without affecting them only after long periods and the risk of using nuclear material as a deadly weapon or deadly and is part of the challenges facing modern society.
Seminar of the Symposium Prof. Dr. Mohamed Fadhel Abed and decision Dr. walaa Abdul Hadi Nouri which included the first four lectures entitled Risk Management and the functions of the national team for CBRN delivered a lecture in which Prof. Dr. Khalid Hadi Mahdi from Baghdad University College of Ibn al-Haytham, and the second entitled the role of the Department of research and development in the creation of a team CBRN Ministerial delivered by Prof. Dr. aows Hilal Jassim of the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and scientific research / R & D department, the third lecture microbiology one of the form of biological weapons deliverd by Prof. Dr. Taghreed Khudair Lutfi technical and the fourth and final one definition chemicals of unknown liquid delivered by Prof. Dr. Riyadh Sadik from the University of Technology / Department of Chemical Engineering.
At the end of the seminar certificates were delivered to the lecturers.

The Department of Building and Construction Engineering at the University of Technology awarded a Master's degree with distinction to the student Bassma Ali Dawood for her thesis entitled "Resistance, Hardness and Compression of Unsaturated Gypsum Soil during Moisture and Immersion" in the discussion held at the Graduate Studies Hall of the Department.
The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Hussein Humaid of the Department of Building Engineering at the University of Technology as Chairman of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Mustansiriya and M. Qassem Abdul Karim, At the Technological University.
This study investigates the behavior of gypsum soils by studying the effect of suction on volumetric variation and the collapse index and the study of the effect of factors on the anaerobic properties such as the initial conditions, the date of stress, the direction of flow and the amount of loads added.
Three types of gypsum soil were examined in this study, sandy gypsum soil from various parts of Iraq. A series of crash tests were carried out using the standard "double and double crash test".
The study showed that the collapse index, soil sufficiency and soil shear resistance were affected by the initial conditions of soil "water content and dry density". The results showed that the good soil gradient tends to collapse more than the soil of the gradient paragraph under the same initial conditions.

The Research and Development Department at the Ministry of Higher Education in collaboration with Energy and Renewable Energies Technology Center at the University of Technology held a workshop entitled "Renewable energies ... notable applications in Iraq" under the logo "Renewable energies innovation and creativity".
Dr. Mahmoud Al-Marsoumi, Vic of General Director of Research and Development, said: "the Renewable energy has a great importance in life as it is an inexhaustible energy that is continuously renewable and depends on natural resources. It includes solar energy, wind, oceans, tides, subsoil, water and others.
He pointed that the global interest of renewable energy alternative energy came because of global growing need due to it is echo system that because of world's population increasing, which requires founding more energy to meet population needs in various economic and social sectors, and it is available and renewable and can provide new jobs.
Prof.Dr. Amin Douai Thamer, the President of University of Technology, confirm that the ministry pays great attention to all sectors of universities and ministries on scientific research in the field of renewable energies, pointing out that Iraq has promising potentials can be invested in service for the country and we have multiple centers interested in this field and the announcement of our university For all preparations in cooperation with it.
The workshop includes two sessions: the first was chaired by Prof. Dr. Riad Hassan Al-Anbari, Head of Construction and Construction Engineering Department at the University of Technology, and Dr. Mahdi Ali Al-Hussein, as its coordinator. The first three lectures focused on solar energy and thermal applications. (Solar energy technology and its applications in Iraq), and the third power stations (solar power plants and their success in the Iraqi environment), while the second session is chaired by Prof. Abdul Hassan Abdul Karam E. Salafah Ismail Ibrahim included three axes, the first is the desalination of renewable energies (renewable energy applications and their role in water desalination in Iraq), the second axis of wind energy (applications of wind power and its future in Iraq), and the third axis of biofuel energy (production of biofuels from Iraqi dates) ).
