Materials Engineering Department Discusses A Master Thesis

A master thesis was discussed in Materials Engineering  Dept. at the University of Technology entitled :

"Preparation and Characterization of High Fiber Concrete Advanced Application" 

The student' s thesis / Mayada Hamid Salim, aimed at electrical conduction and electromagnetic shielding of fiber-reinforced concrete and the use of industrial and agricultural waste to benefit and reduce environmental pollution.

For achieving that , firstly, steel and carbon fibers were used with a fixed replacement ratio. Secondly, the waste was prepared as slag powder and corn husk ash. Third: Slag powder, corn husk ash, steel wool and carbon nanotubes (0.5, 1%) were added as a partial substitute for cement by weight.

The mechanical, physical, electrical and electromagnetic interference properties of concrete mixtures were studied. SEM, EDS and XRD and perform inspections.

The results showed a significant improvement in the physical and mechanical properties of all mixtures. Where the mixture of carbon fibers with nanotubes showed the best conductivity, and the reflectivity of the mixture was 0.6 s/m and the reflectivity of the mixture was 59.5 dB at a frequency of 4.25 GHz. , the shielding efficacy of the mixture was 40 dB at 12 GHz.
