The Civil Engineering Department at UOT granted MSc about

FLOOD HAZARD MANAGEMENT Of HEMRIN LAKE USING GEOMATICS TECHNIQUES

Thesis of (Hussain Mohammed Huseen) included suggestion of

A method based on the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) using five experts to rank conditioning criteria that affect the design and selection of flood escape paths in the study area to improve flood escape paths in the study area to improve flood escape paths and then consider path length, cut size, burial and density Population, agricultural lands, residential areas, road networks, power lines and oil pipelines, then these classification criteria were used in the genetic algorithm, which led to determining the optimal paths.

The results of this study revealed that Landsat 8 and Aster Gdem provide a cost-effective approach to the identification of flooded areas and as a consequence flood risk management. According to the results of AHP, experts 1 and 2 believe that the length of the flood escape channel is more important than the amount of cut and backfill, while the other three are differ.

The proposed methodologies for assessing the risks of floods, especially for the Diyala River, where a strategy for flood prevention can be developed in the region, can reduce the length of the path and the size of cut and burials in reducing the cost of building flood escape channels.

The discussion committee consisted of:

- Prof. Dr. Uday Zakaria Jassim / the head.

-Assist. Prof. Dr. Maytham Mutashar Sharqi / Member
