Materials Engineering Dept. Discusses A Master Thesis

A master thesis was discussed in Materials Engineering Dept. at the University of Technology entitled :-
"Mechanical and Physical Characterization of Composite Materials Fabricated by  3D Printing Technology"

The thesis of student/ Sabreen Ali Oudah aimed to use the fused deposition modeling technique, which is one of the three-dimensional printing techniques to manufacture samples of a composite material with a polymeric basis (ABS) and was reinforced with glass fibers and carbon fibers, each separately, in different weight ratios (1%, 2%, 3%, 4%) for the purpose of studying the effect of fiber content and type on the mechanical and physical properties of the manufactured part.

The work methodology included the use of Takeuchi's technique in designing experiments and the MOORA technique of proportional analysis to obtain the optimal selection of a number of factors for all characteristics simultaneously. The results showed that with the increase in the fiber content, there was a gradual improvement in the mechanical performance, and the highest percentage of improvement in the mechanical properties was achieved when 4% of the fiber content was added and a decrease in the physical performance in terms of surface finish.
