Civil Engineering Department organize a scientific symposium

 (The water crisis and its treatment, proposals and solutions)

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan Al-Ghabban, Civil Engineering Department/Water Engineering and Hydraulic Facilities Branch, in cooperation with the Sanitary and Environmental Engineering Branch and the Water Desalination Research Unit at the University of Technology, organized a scientific symposium entitled, (The water crisis and its treatment are proposals and solutions) on Sunday 21/11/2021 in the central hall of the department

The symposium was attended by the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Al-Ghabban, Assistant President for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hussein Hamid Karim, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Hassan Hamoudi Joni, Head of the Water Engineering and Hydraulic Facilities Branch, Prof. Dr. Jaafar Sadiq Matouq, and a group of experts and general managers in the Ministry of Water Resources, a number of branch heads' and university lecturers.

The symposium began with citation of Holy Quran and playing the Republican anthem, after which the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Al-Ghabban, delivered welcoming speech in which he blessed the distinguished efforts of the department in holding such symposium that would raise the scientific and applied level of the university.

While the head of the Civil Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Hassan Hamoudi Johnny delivered  a speech in which he stated that the university, including the Civil Engineering Department, has an active role in studying and finding solutions to the crises facing the country, such as the water resource scarcity crisis, which poses a serious threat to the present and future of the country, and holding this symposium provides an opportunity to gather experts and specialists who are interested in this file for the purpose of Presenting and circulating ideas and coming up with recommendations that could help decision-makers to take appropriate and sound measures that are based on scientific insights.

The symposium aimed to increase scientific and educational awareness of the importance of the role of rationalizing water consumption, as well as studying the impact of climate changes on the availability of water suitable for human use, in addition to discussing the positives and how to take advantage of these changes, proposing appropriate treatments for the negatives, and developing cooperation between the University of Technology and other state institutions to exchange experiences and ideas to strengthen the infrastructure of our dear country.

The symposium included many items, the most important of which are:

The first axis: climatic changes and their impact on the sources of water resources coming to Iraq.

The second axis: the reuse of sewage water.

The third axis: uses of the green approach in the treatment of polluted water.

 

The symposium concluded with the distribution of certificates of appreciation to the lecturers in the symposium and members of the scientific and preparatory committee.
