The Environmental Research Center at UOT held a seminar entitled Food Pollution and Sustainable Health, in the presence of the Center’s Director, Prof. Dr. Abdul Hamid M. Jawad and a number of the Center’s staff.

During which the Head of the Sustainable Development Dept., Asst. Prof. Basem H. Faraj, gave the second lecture for the cultural season while being committed to the Crisis Cell's instructions in social distancing and wearing face masks

The lecture included that the increase in the population of the earth requires an increase in food production, but climate change has become a strong factor in determining cultivated areas and the lack of productivity of the land, which forced people to search for means to increase productivity to meet needs, which led to the increase in the use of pesticides of various kinds and chemical fertilizers over the years, which caused the production of economic plants genetically modified and contributed a lot to complicate the issue of food pollution.

He explained that the entry of many environmental pollutants into the human food chain has led to an increase in poisoning and death cases worldwide and to reduce the impact of this on human health requires research in various means to reduce food pollution in the food chain in one hand and to spread the culture of cleaning the human body from toxins as a vital system in the other hand.

The lecture concluded with a set of recommendations, the most important of which is to pay attention to the quality of the food consumed and to practice sports continuously to help the body excrete toxins and eat food as much as the body needs and avoid waste of food.
