Technology supports the 25th Gulf Championship in Basra

In a rainy weather, the Petroleum Engineering won the title of the university championship for students for the first time in its history

The Petroleum Technology Engineering Department team was crowned University of Technology Football Championship title for students for the first time in its history, after defeating the Electromechanical Engineering Department team, who held the title of the previous championship, with two goals to one, in the final match that took place on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at the university stadium in heavy rainy weather. In the presence of the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan Al-Ghabban, a number of heads of engineering departments, faculty staff and university students.

The first half of the match, which was led by the referees, Assist. Prof. Dr. Najah Salman, Director of the Student Activities Department, Haider Muhammad and Yasser Hassan, the fourth referee, Ali Faraj, and the supervisor Walid Natiq and Hussein Abdul-Ridha, ended with the two teams tied without goals.

In the second half, the Petroleum Engineering team succeeded in scoring first goal through the player Saleh Mahdi, and his colleague Rasoul Sabah added the second goal, and the player Zulfikar reduced the difference by scoring the first goal for the electromechanical engineering team, who failed to return to the match, due to he played in the last minutes after his player Karrar was sent off when the referee whistles the end of the match by winning petroleum engineering the title.

The head of the Petroleum Technology Department, Prof. Dr. Fadhel Sarhan, distributed awards to the first and second place winners, the championship scorer Hassan Khaled, the ideal team, the civil engineering team, the best goalkeeper Haider Farhan, the best player in the tournament, Rasool Sabah, and the perfect player Ali Fadel. Then the team awards were distributed to the owners The first positions are the team of Petroleum Engineering Department, the title holder, the team of Electromechanical Engineering, the runner-up, and the Mechanical Engineering and Applied Sciences equally in third place

The final match witnessed the support of the University of Technology to Basra Governorate by hosting the Gulf 25 football club by raising banners in the stadium and the flags of the participating teams in the tournament, which opens next Friday.
