Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghaban, and under the direct supervision of the Director of the Environmental Research Centre, Prof. Dr. Zainab Baha Mohammed, the Environmental Research Centre at the University of Technology organized a scientific electronic webinar using the (FCC) platform entitled "Human Rights and Anti-Human Trafficking Legislation." This webinar was electronically moderated by Dr. Makhlad Amer Hussein, the head of the electronic activities committee at the centre, with the assistance of Dr. Zahraa Farhan, a lecturer and researcher.
The lecture, delivered by Hanin Rashid Majeed, a lecturer in the psychological counselling and educational guidance department at the university, explained that human trafficking is the buying and selling of individuals for purposes related to forced labour, slavery, and sexual exploitation for commercial purposes by smugglers and other beneficiaries. Human trafficking may include the removal of organs and tissues, surrogacy, and the transfer of ova. Human trafficking varies from one country to another and may involve more than one country (a transnational crime).
The lecturer pointed out that the process of human trafficking is accompanied by psychological, health, economic, and political effects that cause great harm to trafficked persons.
The lecturer recommended the adoption of an effective strategy to combat human trafficking that includes a set of programs, including a program to enhance the preventive aspect, a program for the education and training of human elements, an academic program for the preparation of related studies and research, and a program to focus on the internal environment of the family and youth.
The lecture concluded by opening the floor for discussion for participants to express their opinions and engage in dialogue with the lecturer.
