Environmental Research Center Participates in Second International Scientific Conference on Environment and Sustainable Development

The Environmental Research Center at the University of Technology  participated in the Second International Scientific Conference on Environment and Sustainable Development, held in cooperation between Komar University of Science and Technology in Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Universitas PGRI Ronggolawe (UNIROW) from Indonesia, and the Training and Research Center in Transport Engineering - University of Kufa. The conference featured the center's participation with a group of distinguished scientific papers presented by a selection of researchers from the center.

The center's director, Prof. Dr. Zainab Bahaa Muhammad, and Lect. Dr. Abbas Jawad Kadhim, head of the Sustainable Development Department, presented a scientific paper entitled: "Assessing the Deteriorating Water Quality of Tigris River in Baghdad Using Water Quality Index and Statistical Analysis" which sheds light on the deterioration of the Tigris River's water quality in Baghdad, using water quality indicators and statistical analysis.

The researchers Asst. Lect. Dr. Azhar Mahmoud Halim, Asst. Lect. Noris Kazem Resen, Asst. Lect. Ban Smari Atiya, and Asst. Lect. Iman Kazem Mutasher also participated with a scientific paper entitled: "Assessment of Heavy Metal Levels of Some Important Medicinal Herbs and Spices Used as Flavoring in Iraqi Cuisine," which aims to assess heavy metal levels in some medicinal herbs and spices used in Iraqi cuisine, and their potential impact on public health.

In addition, the researchers Asst. Lect. Abdul Aziz Ahmed Hamad, Asst. Lect. Ali Nasser, Asst. Lect. Ola Hamed, and M.M. Ahmed Alwan presented a paper entitled: "Evaluation of Soil Characteristics in the City of Al-Muthanna and Comparison of Some Characteristics of Soils in Iraq," which deals with the evaluation of soil characteristics in the city of Al-Muthanna, and a comparison between some physical and chemical properties of soil types in Iraq.

These scientific contributions reflected the center's commitment to promoting sustainable environmental research and contributing to finding scientific solutions to environmental issues in Iraq. They also contribute to strengthening academic cooperation between Iraqi and international universities in the fields of environment and sustainable development.
