The President of Petroleum Technology Department Participated in the ”Getenergy for Iraq” Conference in Turkey

     Dr. Mohammed Al-Jawad, the head of the Petroleum Technology Department, was deputed to Istanbul / Turkey to participate in the “Getenergy for Iraq conference 2012” which was held during 27 and 28 of November 2012 and consisted of many seminars, showrooms and scientific debates.Prof. Mohammed declared that it is important to participate in such events because many ideas were put forward and many suggestions were made like: the French Institute of Petroleum (IFP) agreement of expertise exchange and joint training; the institute representative clarified the tendency of the institute to train the newly graduate lecturers for one semester on the new teaching techniques under specialists supervising. Lori Manson, the representative of IREX organization, clarified the main goals of cooperation between Petroleum Technology department and IREX which intends to use the expertise of a Colorado School of Mines` faculty member to supervise on the department`s global money adoption which supposed to start within next year.

The needs of the department were discussed with Petrochina company representative, who showed a desire of helping the department to train the students and faculty members. A request was made to the manager of training in Rumailah field operated by the British petroleum company (BP) to train the 3rd stage students during the summer vacation for helping the company in training courses.

A seminar in the specialties regarding petroleum industry was held by the participation of Mosul University, American University in Sulaimaniah and Petroleum Technology department with the presence of the foreign companies` representatives in Iraq.  A simplified explanation about the university and the department was made in addition to discussing the updating curriculums issue. Many companies showed a tendency to attend such seminars and conferences in the future with the intention to form a joint committee between Petroleum Technology department and equivalent departments in the Ministry of Oil and other universities. It was clear that what slows the department is the scarcity in the specialized faculty members.

It is worth mentioning that the University of Technology represented by the Petroleum Technology department was the only Iraqi university that participated in the science exhibition of the conference.
