In order to develop the oil sector through the provision of studies and scientific research and for the definition of the Iraqi oil and gas –producing cities, Prof. Mohammed Saleh AlJawad, Head of the Department participated in the third Iraq's conference of oil and gas as president of the Scientific Committee and as a participant in the conference, which was held in the province of Maysan / Halfaya oil field for two-days on 28-29 October 2015.Conference events included an opening session and (10) Scientific Sessions, where the Oil Minster has attended the ceremonial and a number of heads of Iraqi universities and general directors in the ministry and a large number of experts and those interested in the oil industry.Thorough the conference sessions, number of (49) papers were introduced for Iraqi and foreign researchers, including the University of Technology / Department of petroleum technology, where students of the fourth stage for the academic year 2014/2015 were participated with the graduation projects.

 The scientific conference sessions were distributed on topics of extractive industry, geology, manufacturing, environment, energy and renewable energies as well as nanotechnology applications in the oil industry.

Of the most important recommendations that came out of the conference is to continue holding such conferences in the interests of the Iraqi oil industry and a focus on applied research that contribute to the solution of problems faced by the oil industry in all aspects and reduce the cost of production in line with falling oil prices.
