Oil and Gas Economics in a Scientific Seminar Hosted by University of Technology

    With the presence of his Excellency The minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research (Dr. Ali Mohammed Al-Adeeb) and the former Minister of Oil (Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Bahr Al-Olom) and the Member of Oil and Gas Committee in Parliament (Dr. Ali Al-Fayadh), The Petroleum Technology Department had organized with the assist of South Oil Company (S.O.C) a scientific seminar entitled “Future Prospects of Oil and Gas Economics in Iraq” on Thursday, the 27th of December 2012, in the hall of the deceased Jasim Al-Hayany in Production and Minerals Engineering Department.The Seminar started with the national anthem and holy Quran recitation followed by Al-Fatiha on the souls of all the Iraqi martyrs.His Excellency then recited a speech saying that this seminar gathers the cadres of Oil Ministry and Higher Education Ministry especially Petroleum Technology Department and discusses a very important subject related to Iraq and its economy which effects political and social aspects of the country. His Excellency added that Iraq has a huge amounts of oil which haven’t reached the optimum level of usage for the ordinary citizen, and this fortune cannot be wasted and it must be fully used through supplementary and transformative industries; Iraq is mainly depending on the oil incomes and this can be used to develop the oil industry in the country.The Head of the University of Technology (Prof. Dr. Ameen Daway) gave a speech about the university and its growth and development in different scientific and applied branches; and how this seminar was one of the scientific memorandum aspects between Petroleum Technology Department and S.O.C to strengthen the scientific and practical relationship between the two of them and to focus on what’s new in the oil and gas industry.

Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Jawad, head of Petroleum Technology Department, declared that this seminar is the result of the joint cooperation between the department and S.O.C and that the University of Technology is always seeking for consolidating relationships between academic and practical sides of a subject according to the importance of adding technical experience to the theoretical experience given to students in classes.The seminar included two sessions; the first one headed by (Mr. Basim Mohammed Khudhir) and discussed the following lectures about oil and gas in Iraq: Challenges and Opportunities – Mr. Fayadh Al-Mosawy / general manager of the technical department in Ministry of Oil and Education Strategy in Iraq Serving the Oil and Gas Sector – Prof. Dr. Mohsen Abd Ali / advisor of the Minister of Higher Education. The second session headed by (Prof. Dr. Mohammed S. Al-Jawad) and discussed four lectures which are: Returns of Service Contracts and its Effect in Growing the National Economy - Mr. Abdul Mahdy Al-Ameedy / general manager of the contracts and licenses  in Ministry of Oil, Global Market Response and Difficulties to Oil and Gas Increased Production in Iraq – Dr. Falah Al-Aamery / general manager of oil marketing company in Ministry of Oil, Future Vision of the National Effort Fields in Supporting the Iraqi Economy – Mr. Basim Mohammed Khudhir / manager of drilling and reclamation board in S.O.C and Iraqi Oil Industry and its Effect on the Producing Governorates Economy – Mr. Hamid Al-Hashimy / deputy director of  fields board in S.O.C.During these sessions many effective debates occurred from the attendance which serves the community and the country, the seminar witnesses a dense crowed from the managers in Oil and Higher Education Ministries and many of lecturers and researches of specialty.In the end of the seminar the attendance and participants were honored due to their hard efforts in the success of this seminar.
