Report  Dr. Iqbal N. Georgis -2016 to Sweden

      I was traveled to Sweden for the period from 4-10 / 3/2016 according to the university order No. 364 / a k at 3/10/2016 and assigned to the membership of the committee to discuss a PhD student (student Entidthar Hammoudi al-Tai) for her thesis tittled:

"Analysis of shallow foundations in three different regions in Iraq"

[using STAAD PRO v8i, SAFE, SAP2000 and PLAXIS software's]
     

According to Lulea Technological University order on 05.02.2016. The  thesis consist of two parts, the first part is the Introduction and theoretical study of the footing types used in Iraq in ancient period, as well as  tests carried out by the researcher on the Iraqi soil get from three regions ( Mosul, Baghdad and Basra), the results were drawn and analyzed by four software's and conclusions was drawn. The second part covered ten researches that were sent for publication in international journals.

      It was held at ten o'clock on 07/03/2016 Monday morning, a brief summary was presented by the student about half an hour. The member of PhD exam were:

1.     Professor Dr. Rafid Al-khadir/ president / John Mores University of Liverpool / England.

2.     Professor Dr. Riyad Almhedy/ member/ Suenber University of Technology / Melbourne Australia.

3.     Assistant Professor Dr. Iqbal N. Georgis /member / University of Technology / Baghdad / Iraq.

4.     Prof. Dr. Leonard Alvkran/ Head of department/ member *

5.     Prof. Dr. Sven Knustn / supervisor *

6.     Prof. Dr. Ansari peer / supervisor *

 Lulea University of Technology/ Civil Engineering, Environment and Natural Resources Engineering Department.

The university contain many departments as; Structural and Construction Engineering, Structural and Fire Engineering, Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering, Luleå University of Technology, Luleå, Sweden.

The discussion started by presentation about half an hour by the student includes a summary of the work in front of graduate students and professors for the purpose views internally in the department. The thesis was send to the Chairman before discussion to put his report and notes then all the notes were done and correct the thesis then type it. A copy was sent to the other person in the committee members.

On the day of discussion The Chairman of the Committee started discussing the student and all the questions that came before other members. Then the second person start to discuss the student for a short time if there are some questions have not been asked by the Chairman of the Committee. The third person also, discuss student and inquire about some comments that were not addressed by the Chairman of the Committee. After that a short meeting was done with supervisors to indicate their opinion about the student and potential, and agreement on the transit of the student, or (Pass or not pass) and sign the forms.
