Environmental research center at University of Technology hold a seminar on "Effect of Internal Combustion Engine Exhausts on Air Pollution"

Asst.Lect.AbdulRahman Shaker showed that The increase in the use of means of transport such as  aircraft, ships, trains and cars have greatly contributed to the movement service of man facilitate and use of time. However, this important development led to the emergence of many problems and adverse consequences on human health and all living things and the environment, as a result of pollution from these means, especially exhaust emissions of engines. He added that internal combustion engines of all types and uses constitute a major source of air pollution because of the harmful emissions of these engines which have negative effects on humans and other organisms.
He also pointed out that the most important of these emissions are nitrogen oxides (NOX), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), unburned hydrocarbons (HC)and smoke. Also, the most important environmental effects of fuel combustion products are global warming and acid rain, which lead to the elimination of biodiversity and causes many diseases in humans, there are several ways to reduce exhaust emissions while maintaining engine performance, he said. Some of the engine parameters such as compression ratio, exhaust gas recycling, injection timing and injection pressure are changed. Biodiesel can also be used in different proportions and mixed with pure diesel fuel, as well as the addition of some chemicals to fuel, all of which help reduce emissions and thus reduce air pollution.

The Department of Control and Systems Engineering at the University of Technology in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior Department of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances held a scientific symposium on the fight against drugs and its hazards in the presence of Prof. Azad Rahim and my staff and students section.

The seminar came within the definition of this deadly scourge in society.

The head of the department, Prof. Azad Rahim Karim thanked the Directorate of Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in the Ministry of Interior.

Speakers at the seminar pointed to the dangers of drug abuse as one of the most destructive issues in society. Indicating the types of drugs that consist of nature, plant, industrial and also the scientific and legal definition of drugs and damage to the nervous system and prevent the circulation and use of law.

The speakers at the seminar pointed to how to reduce the phenomenon of abuse and promotion in order to preserve society and safety.

Chemical Engineering Department Hold Seminar

Within the scientific and cultural activities for the first semester in the academic year 2018-2019, Chemical Engineering Department,  held  a seminar which is presented by Asst.Lect.Amer Yahya entitled:" 2-Nitrophenol and 2,6-Dinitrophenol repartition in water octanol system" on al-Khawarizmi Hall in the presence of Head of Department Asst.Prof.Dr.Khalid Ajmi and faculty and staff of the department.

Asst.Lect.Amer Yahya explained that the coefficient of water-log (P) of the nitrophenol compounds is an important thermal dynamic characteristic used to describe the division of these compounds between the water and organic phases. Due to its high toxicity and environmental impact, it is accurately refuted in surface water.

In this study,  log values for 2-nitrophenol and 2,6-diitrophenol were obtained using conventional concussion method with optical spectrum measurements over wavelengths of 200-500 nm and detecting a group of phenols and phenols from compounds experiment in water and organic phases. In particular, mathematical model was used to calculate simple division coefficients.

Distribution of 2-nitrophenol between water and 1 octanol at 25 ° C, the partitioning coefficients were close to the value in the literature, between 1.75-1.8, and for 2.6-ditrophenol gave the fractionation factors less than the published value in the literature, between 0.72 - 0.78. The value of log P changes with the total concentration of the studied compounds, with non-linear behavior.

Within the cultural season, Communication Engineering Department at the University of Technology held a discussion seminar on GPS on the hall of martyr Mohammed Fadel.

Lect.Dr.Bassem Saeed, present a lecture in which he explained the global system and its importance at the present time. The discussion session included many questions and discussions.

The seminar was attended by Head of the department Asst.Prof.Dr. Avaneen Anwar and number of faculty members and staff

There were two lecturers in the seminar, the first lecture was presented by Asst.Prof.Dr.Haider Abdul-Rida from Laser Science Branch on the concept of E-learning with its main objectives, types, management systems and mechanisms of application, while the second lecture was given by Lect.Dr.Mohammed Abdul Sattar from the branch of laser science and technology, which dealt with the provision of E-learning using Google's class and applications.

discussion and exchanging views on the subject of E-learning by the organizers of the seminar and participants were positive and effective in enriching the platform of the seminar and finding solutions and recommendations to develop the process of E-learning within the university education in the Department of Applied Sciences, the most impartment of them were:

Preparing the infrastructure and the communication system (Internet) and providing the various devices and equipment necessary for the application of e-learning.

Training faculty staff and students to manage the various electronic learning systems as well as training them to support the process of managing these systems and cooperation with the centers specialized in the management of electronic education at the University of Technology or other relevant institutions for the purpose of achieving this.

Adopting the best international E-learning management systems for the purpose of applying them in the scientific branches of the department and in accordance with the environment and systems of university education in the Iraqi universities with regard to e-learning. Teaching support for university education and applying it in the scientific branches of the department will lead to raising performance evaluation standards for the department and its teaching staff in it.
