Electromechanical Engineering Department discusses PhD. Thesis about design and manufacture of an intelligent mechanical wear for metal alloys

 

Electromechanical Engineering Department at the University of Technology discussed PhD. thesis titled “Design and manufacture of a smart mechanical (wear and tear) machine (the screw is mounted on the disk) for metal alloys by researcher Hoda Jassim Muhammad.

The thesis aimed to design and manufacture a smart disk-mounted mechanical corrosion testing machine that can handle a load on the sample of up to 25 Newtons, for the operating system and open source electronic components, which facilitates future development and additions.

The thesis included designing and implementing a control system using (HMI) interaction screen and a programmable logic controller (PLC) that controls and monitors several variables such as applied load, temperature, rotational speed, sliding time, friction force, and sliding distance.

The researcher achieved many developments in the design and operation of the manufactured device. A new method was also used to change the applied load, and a new unit was added to collect wear debris resulting from the corrosion process. The device was also isolated with a sound silencer to reduce noise.

 The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Hussein Jassim Al-Alakawi as Chairman, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abd al-Razzaq Yas as a member, Prof. Dr. Arkan Ahmed Hussein as a member, Prof.Dr. Hoda Akram Zanil as a member, and Prof.Dr. Khansa Daoud Salman as a member and supervisor. And Prof. Ahmed Hamid Raja, member and supervisor. 

The discussion concluded with the student being awarded a PhD. degree with distinction.
