The Department of Architecture at  the University of Technology held a joint workshop in cooperation  with the Municipality of Baghdad in addition to the Department of Architecture at Al-Nahrain University on the main hall of the Department of Architecture on Monday 15/5/2017 entitled "The mechanisms of urban development of the main axes in the historic center of Rusafa (Al-Rasheed, AL kifah,ALKhulafa ").

The workshop was attended by a large  staff of specialists in representing the sponsors of the workshop in addition to the departments of architecture in government colleges and private colleges, "University of Baghdad, Uruk, Isra, Farabi" in addition to the staff of the Ministry of Housing and the head of engineers union Dr. Sabeah Al graoyee

The workshop started with worksheets submitted by researchers who represented the supporting bodies of the workshop

The recommendations were read in its preliminary form and considered as a road map for the subsequent stages within the cooperation mechanism between the  department and the Municipality of Baghdad

At the end of the workshop, certificates of appreciation were distributed to all participants by the Head of Department, Dr. Ibrahim Jawad Kazem.

The Director of the  Energy Technology and Renewable Energies Center at the University of Technology, Prof. Ahmed Abdul Amir Hussin published scientific research in the magazine

 Free Radicals and Antioxidants

Entitled: Comparative Molecular Modeling Studies of Coumarin Derivatives as Potential Antioxidant Agents

The Comarines is found in plants, including various vegetables, and also exists in some flavors and foods. Coumarin has various important medical activities such as anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, antiviral, antimicrobial, anti-cancer. In some studies it has been pointed out its ability to increase activity of the central nervous system. In this research new derivatives of Coumarin have been manufactured which are interesting and specially designed for medical applications especially for antioxidant activity. The coumarin was successfully synthesized through a series of interactions with 4-hydroxycomarin as a primary nucleus. The molecular structures of the manufactured comarins have been diagnosed using infrared and NMR. The efficiency of compounds prepared as antioxidants was measured using the spectral method using free radicals using DPPH and H2O2 compounds. The new comarines prepared in this work had an excellent anti-oxidant effect compared with vitamin C. Studies using functional density theory showed that there is a high correlation between the following factors: dipole, ionization energy, η hardness, S elasticity, μ electrolysis, energy gap, HOMO LUMO, and the susceptibility of compounds prepared as antioxidants.

The Department of Petroleum Technology at the University of Technology held a seminar on self-report in accordance with ABET standards for teaching the department on Sunday 30/4/2017 and on the conference hall.

The symposium included a lecture delivered by the administrative assistant d. Raed Naeem which explained the importance of introducing the contents of the required standards according to the ABET and explaining these criteria, which emphasizes the work of fixed mechanisms and explain how to describe the outputs of the students (ak) and how to describe each teaching material by setting appropriate criteria for evaluating students and providing graphs to describe these criteria .The course was implemented in coordination with IREX.

He stressed that this workshop is one of the requirements for completion of the workshop through the web interface on the site (IREX) in order to deliver the self-report model according to ABET standards of the petroleum  department for the purpose of evaluation and inform us to meet the requirements of international standards in the classification of international universities.

This experience is of great benefit as it is a real and transparent test in the meeting of the petroleum  technology department of the ABET standard and provide feedback in case it exists to support this report and increase its strength and meet those criteria for the purpose of working within the department in the near future.
