Laser Engineering and Optoelectronics Department at the University of Technology awarded a master’s degree to the student Iman Nassif Jassim for her thesis titled:
Optical fiber laser with a passive quality factor switch using nanoparticle saturated absorbers.
The thesis aimed to study the nonlinear optical properties of nanomaterials used as a saturated absorber inside the fiber optic laser cavity to demonstrate short pulses by introducing nanomaterial films (CaCo3/PVA and B4C/PVA) into the erbium-doped fiber laser cavity (EDFL).
The researcher concluded that the short pulses generated are more stable, with the shortest pulse width and highest frequency, while increasing the pumping force to a certain extent.
The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Abdullah Khudair Abbas as Chairman, Prof. Dr. Anwar Abdel Sattar Abdel Razzaq and Prof. Dr. Aseel Abdel Amir Shaghati as members, and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Jalal Abdel Razzaq and Eng. Dr. Heba Hassan Abdullah.
