Lec. Dr. Mu'ayad Nasir Muslim and Asst. Lec. Abdul Aziz Ahmed Hamad participated in the Iraqi Youth - Climate Protectors Conference, held under the auspices of the Prime Minister's Office - Supreme Council for Youth. Funded by the International Organization for Migration.
The conference aimed to confer regional and international developments and challenges related to climate change and its repercussions on Iraq, as well as the role of youth in supporting governmental and international institutions.
In the first session, titled "The Impact of Drought on Internal Displacement and Security," Dr. Mu'ayyad Nasir Muslim emphasized the importance of scientific research in reducing environmental displacement by enhancing cooperation between research centers at Iraqi universities and decision-makers to implement effective, realistic, and eco-friendly solutions through out motivating researchers to conduct fieldwork and providing material and moral incentives for those who contribute to solving real-life environmental problems. Furthermore, assume modern technology that relies on research to monitor the environment and measure its impact.
The conference concluded with a presentation of final recommendations that focused on the environment, enhancing cooperation between governmental institutions and youth, supporting sustainable environmental projects, and providing training and educational opportunities for youth in the environment and climate change field.
