Computer Science Department at the University of Technology awarded PHD to the student ( Suhaila Najim) for her dissertation " Multimodal Emotion
Recognition System For Human Robot Interaction" on Monday sept.7.2020 at the discussion hall in the department. The discussion committee was chaired by Prof.Dr.Abbas Mohsen and the membership of Prof.Dr.Matheel EmadAldeen , Asst.Prof.Dr.Yousra Hussein, Asst.Prof.Dr.Abeer Salim and Pro.Dr. ALiaa Kareem as a member and supervisor. There are many verb and non-verbal informative techniques might use to convey the emotional state to a robot, like facial expressions, voice, pronounced words, body gestures and speech signals. In this study a multi-automatic system based on visual and sonic information extracted form HRI (human-robot interaction) is used to recognize emotions for the purpose of face and speech signal. Five main pictures were used to make the visual data and a new method was proposed to recognize facial emotions based on drawings mining which considered a unique move toward facial area representation method. In this dissertation a simple robot head was designed for the purpose of interaction.
