Civil Engineering Department Grants PHD

Civil Engineering Department at University of Technology grants PHD to the student Mohammed Ali for his dissertation "EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL INVESTIONS STUDY ON DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF MACHINE FOUNDATION ON MULTI-LAYER SANDY SOIL REINFORCED BY GEOGRID" on sept.29.2020.

The discussion committee was chaired by Prof.Dr.Mohammed Yousif and the membership of Prof.Dr.Qasyoun Saad Al-Deen and Asst.Prof.Dr.Nahla Mohammed, Asst. Prof.Dr.Maki Kamil and Asst. Prof.Dr. Mahi Obeed with Prof.Dr.Hussein Hameed and Asst.Prof.Dr. Zena Waleed as members and supervisors.

In this study many, a number of issues were investigated including substrate precipitin on the soil surface and buried in multi-layered soil, displacement and distribution of stresses in contact with the foundation at the depth of three spots under the substrate. Measuring the pore water pressure in and the mechanism of the liquefaction probability in multi-layered soils and the probability and effects of hardening materials in reducing the soil liquefaction.

Generally, the student found that the values of precipitation increased up to 250 cycle with increasing the load, and then gradual to a level between 600 to 2300 cycles depending on the frequency used. It can be concluded that the arrangement of the soil (dense-medium) precipices more than (medium- dense) and the precipitation values increase with the increase of load capacities.

The laboratory tests showed that the dry soil has less precipitation than the saturated soil about 30-60% and 66-75% for the order (medium-dense) and (dense-medium) respectively.
